KU Students Help Start-up Companies Make Some Dough

In this tough economy, everyone's looking for some kind of break, and a class project at KU's business school is giving students and start-up businesses that break.

The guys at Pieroguys Pierogies know starting up a new company isn't glamorous, but they're fulfilling a dream.

"We just had a concept, and an idea, and we just, we wanted to roll it," Frank Gazella, Jr., owner of Pieroguys Pierogies says.

Frank and his partner, Andrew Misak started their company nearly five years ago after late night cravings at KU turned to a passion for a Polish snack food.

Now KU is inspiring more ideas for the Pieroguys.

Students in the business school were assigned a project to help start-up companies with free marketing ideas.

The Hutchinson plant, which officially opened Dec. 3, will produce the turbines' nacelles, which hold all the equipment for turning wind power into electricity. The Fort Madison plant produces the turbines' blades.
