Tallgrass Creek Residents to Root Their Beloved Chiefs Onto Super Bowl at October 18 Games Rally

WHAT:

A Tailgating/Outdoor Games Football Rally by nearly 300 residents of Tallgrass Creek retirement community in Overland Park, KS, to cheer on their beloved Kansas City Chiefs (now 6-0 in the AFC)  to the Super Bowl. Residents, many of whom will be attired in their Kansas City Chiefs jerseys and caps, will play the following games in seemingly non-stop fashion:  ladder golf, bean bag toss, football toss, bocce ball, washers, putting contest, and ring toss. The prizes will be awarded at Happy Hour, from 4 – 5 p.m., in the evening

The event will be “kicked off,” so-to-speak, with an opening ceremony performed by the Tallgrass Creek Chorale. Soft pretzels and cheese, nachos, and root beer will be on the menu.

KU Coaches Comment on Oklahoma State Tragedy

Kansas Athletics has released the following statements from Kansas Athletics Director Sheahon Zenger, women’s basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson and men’s basketball coach Bill Self concerning the recent passing of Oklahoma State women’s basketball coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna.

Kansas Athletics Director Sheahon Zenger: “Words cannot adequately express the sorrow we feel for the friends and families of Coaches Budke and Serna. Our hearts go out to the entire Oklahoma State family.”

The game will start at approximately 8:30 p.m. (Central) from Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y., as part of ESPN's Tip-Off Marathon. Kansas enters the game No. 13 in both national polls, while Kentucky is No. 2.

Lawrence Parks and Rec Offering Skateboard Clinic

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is offering a skateboarding clinic 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Centennial Park Skate Park, 600 Rockledge Rd.
The clinic is up to anyone 6 years-old and older.

Participants will be introduced to many techniques to become a better skateboarder and learn several new tricks during the four-hour workshop. Go Skate instructors will run the clinic.

Participants must provide their own skateboard, helmet and protective pads. Cost is $49 per participant.

KU Hawk Talk Football Kick-Off Rally Set for Sept. 1

(PRESS RELEASE) Kansas football head coach Turner Gill will launch his weekly radio show on Thursday, Sept. 1 as part of the Hawk Talk Kick Off Rally. Hawk Talk with Turner Gill will move to the Salty Iguana on the corner of 6th St., and Wakarusa in 2011 and the season-long show will begin with a bang as it will be a part of a kick off pep rally for Kansas football fans.

The Hawk Talk Kick Off Rally will open at 5 p.m., in the Salty Iguana parking lot with inflatable games for kids, various KU giveaways and multiple vendors on site. Hawk Talk with Turner Gill will broadcast live from inside Salty Iguana from 6-7 p.m.
